248 CHAPTER 14: IP PAD APPLICATION PARAMETERS
Remote PAD name
The Remote IP PAD Name field allows you to assign a name to the IP virtual link
between our IP layer and a remote IP layer in another TXPORT unit, allowing for
a simpler user interface. When configuring a Default Host name, the Remote PAD
name is used instead of the actual IP address. The selections are an ASCII string
of up to 17 characters. The default is a null string.
Remote PAD IP address
The remote IP address specifies the IP address that is used in the destination
address field of the IP header of any datagram sent to the corresponding name. The
representation of the IP address as four fields separated by periods (.) is the
standard IP representation. The selections are for an IP address (v.x.y.z) decimal
numbers ranging from 0.0.0.0
to 255.255.255.255.
Remote PAD type
The remote PAD type is used to define which type of IP device the unit
communicates to. The only supported value is PDC unit. The selection is PDC.
LAN Media Access Control
The LAN MAC parameter specifies if the IP frame is encapsulated in an Ethernet
or 802.2 header. The Ethernet header contains the MAC destination, source
addresses, and a frame type while the 802.2 header contains the 802.3 header
(MAC destination, source addresses, and frame length), an LLC1 header (DSAP,
SSAP, and frame type=UI), and a SNAP header containing SNAP802.2ID,
SNAP802.2ID, SNAP802.2 ID plus the Ethertype. Most of the current applications
using IP protocol use the ETHERNET MAC. The selections are ETHER
and
802.2.
Remote PAD options
Option A - Tunnel. This option is used to send messages in IP encapsulation only.
It is reserved for future applications.
